According to ancient principles, Desire, Anger, Greed, Attachment and Ego are the five traits that we are all born with . Each of these traits have been given to us in varied amounts for initiating a sense of being in us, and are unique for every individual. Our presence in the physical world, makes these traits important for our survival and emotional intelligence. However, being too worldly and immersed brings an overwhelming experience of these traits that leads to a lack of balance in our nature that is destructive, stressful and ultimately causes pain.
- Desire of sensuality is required for reproduction but Lust of the same is destructive.
- Anger is a mechanism for self-defence and survival but being too angry can lead us to taking various wrong decisions, steps and reactions in life.
- Attachment is important for forming relations, it initiates the sense of care for family and the feeling of belongingness but being too attached emotionally or materially, distresses us and puts us in positions of being hurt.
- Ego is important for identity. The ID ego, which responds directly and immediately to basic urges, needs, and desires is instinctual and is necessary for a sense of “I”. But an overwhelming sense of “I-ego” can create arrogance and become destructive. This sense is then reflected in various bad decisions and low acceptance.
- Greed is also a part of human nature. The seed of greed lies in the needs. It starts with the fulfilment of our basic needs: money, food, sensual pleasures, possessions or anything in this world creates the drive to work for it. But, when the need is fulfilled however, the want does not stop, greed takes over our decisions.
